Filmstar Mithun Chakraborty attends Pranab Mukherjee swearing in

 There was a famous and filmy face among the sizeable Bengali contingent that arrived in Delhi to attend the swearing in of Pranab Mukherjee, India's 13th President. Mithun Chakraborty, one of Bengal's most successful exports to Bollywood, took his place among Mr Mukherjee's entourage, which also included West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Mr Chakraborty and Ms Banerjee flew into New Delhi on the same flight from Kolkata yesterday (July 24, 2012).

Mr Chakraborty, who last appeared in Housefull 2, has never pursued a political career, unlike other stars like Shatrughan Sinha, Vinod Khanna and the late Rajesh Khanna. However, he famously used to have political convictions before he became an actor. He was a true blue Naxalite in the years before his movie debut in 1976 film Mrigaya. Mr Chakraborty gave up his Naxal life after the death of his brother.

Mr Chakraborty was among the top actors in Bollywood in the 1980s, hitting big time with Disco Dancer in 1982 and appearing in other big movies like Ghar Ek Mandir, Jagir, Agneepath and Jallaad.

Pranab Mukherjee took his oath as President at 11.38 am today. The swearing in was also attended by Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Ministers, Governors, and Chief Ministers.

Going by director r’s track record it doesn’t seem to be too far away from what could be the case

 The first look of Madhur Bhandarkar Kareena Kapoor-starrer, Heroine was released . It seems to be dramatic and very very filmi, thd of role that Kareena would excel at. Over the years we have seen the evolution of the Bhandarkar school of filmmaking, anhrives on clichés and spins sob stories around them.

We were amused when we read a cynical tweet on Heroine, and we had to share it with you. “Small town girl -> Idol big star -> Bbay -> Fail auditions -> Grimy prods -> Castingcouch -> Fame -> Jealousy -> Drugs -> Downfall. #Heroine.” This pattern is similar to that of the Priyanka Chopra starrer . We expected Bebo to ensure that there are no common points between her film and that of her arch rival Priyanka. What really made us giggle was the cheesy tagline for the film:

Yeh Film Industry hai. Yahan ya to kar lo, ya ho jao. (This is the film industry, ou manipulate, or get manipulated.)

That was enough to confirm our worst fears, but we will still queue up at the BO when the film releases. After all, it is Bebo’s most film yet, she says, a role that she has dug her teeth into with her eyes set firmly on winning a National Award!

Looks like Ranbir Kapoor is ready to rock as the next RK in Bollywood. Ranbir was mobbed by a large number of female fans at a mall in Mumbai. The actor arrived to attend an event but, he was surrounded by a large crowd and they did not let him towards his car. The problem started when the news about his arrival spread like wild fire, and which resulted in a huge crowd waiting for the star's arraival. Even, his car was not allowed to be parked because of his crazy fans. It was the event guards who rescued the actor and arranged him to wait at the security room for a while.
After nearly 45 minutes of struggle, Ranbir finally reached his car and left the place. Insiders say, he has never faced such a thing before, but still he was very patient with his fans. He was worried only about one thing: that no one should get hurt. We are sure he would top the charmers list, joining his dad in garnering a huge female fan following!
